Polish chickens are a long-established breed with record dating back to the 16th century. They were originally known as Paduan or Patavinian fowls and are known as Polish Large Fowls in the British Poultry Standard. Polish chicks are known for having feathers that grow from a knob in the skull of their head, giving them a recognizable crest.

Buff Laced Polish chicks are light yellow, with some having gold near the eyes. If a comb is present, it is of the V-type, and they have blue or slaty blue legs and feet. The crest of both male and female adults is creamy white laced with golden buff. After the first molt it should be golden buff laced with creamy white. The remaining plumage for adult females is golden buff laced with creamy white. Adult males have some creamy white edging in the wing primaries, while the rest of the plumage is golden buff laced with creamy white.

Golden Laced Polish chicks are black and brown with a crest. If a comb is present, it is of the V-type, and they have clean, blue or slaty blue legs and feet. Adult plumage is primarily golden bay laced with black. Their crests should be black laced with golden bay that changes to golden bay laced with black after the first molt.

Silver Laced Polish chicks are black and silver. If a comb is present, it is of the V-type, and they have clean, blue or slaty blue legs and feet. Adult plumage is primarily white laced with black. Their crests should be black laced with white that changes to white laced with black after the first molt.

White Crested Black Polish chicks are black with a white crest, head, wings, chest and abdomen. If a comb is present, it is of the V-type, and they have clean, white and black legs and feet. Adults have a white crest they may have some black feathers at the front base. The remaining plumage is greenish black.

White Crested Blue Polish chicks have white crests while the remainder of the body ranges from black to light gray to almost white. They have clean, white legs and feet, though darker chicks may have some black. If a comb is present, it is of the V-type. Adults have a white crest, that may have a small group of blue at the base of the crest. Most of the remaining plumage is slate blue laced with black. The males head is black, while the wing primaries and lower webs are slate blue without lacing.
