Ameraucana

The Ameraucana is a highly popular chicken breed, known for laying beautiful blue eggs.  

While known for laying blue to blue-green chicken eggs, over the years the Ameraucana has risen to one of ths most popular chicken breeds for backyard chicken keepers known for their docile, friendly, and quiet temperament. Ameraucanas are a top chicken breed for families with children, urban flock owners, and a must-have for any chicken keeper working on a rainbow egg basket. 

The Ameraucana breed was originally developed in the 1970s, derived from Araucanas. Ameraucanas were bred to retain the blue-egg laying gene but eliminate some of the issues associated with the Araucana breed. 

Mature Ameraucanas are medium-sized birds with pea combs, are extremely hardy, and come in a wonderful combination of feather colors and patterns making a beautiful laying flock of tinted egg layers. Baby chicks come in all colors, just like the adults.
